Morante de la Puebla is set to make history this summer in El Puerto. The Plaza Real of El Puerto de Santa María will host a top-class 2026 season featuring the celebrated matador on all four bullfights of the programme.
The Plaza Real of El Puerto de Santa María has unveiled one of its most ambitious seasons in recent years. Coinciding with the 146th anniversary of this historic Andalusian bullring, promoter Circuitos Taurinos has presented a programme running from late July to early August, designed to establish the city as one of the leading bullfighting destinations of the Spanish summer.
The season will feature four bullfights, one novillada with picadors and a horse-mounted bullfight, as well as two practical training events aimed at supporting the next generation of bullfighters.
The programme combines established stars, emerging talents, prestigious breeding ranches and one standout name above all others: Morante de la Puebla.

The defining feature of this year’s season will be Morante de la Puebla’s participation in all four bullfights scheduled during the festival.
His commitment represents a remarkable milestone in the recent history of the Plaza Real and highlights the outstanding form enjoyed by the Sevillian maestro. Appearing throughout the entire series makes this season a truly exceptional occasion, one rarely seen in a bullring of this stature.
Morante will share the bill with some of the biggest names in modern bullfighting, creating combinations that bring together many of the sport’s leading figures.
Alongside Morante, the season will feature leading matadors including Alejandro Talavante, Juan Ortega, Roca Rey, Pablo Aguado, José María Manzanares, Borja Jiménez and David de Miranda.
The programme also gives prominence to local talent. Young bullfighters Víctor Barroso and Gonzalo Capdevila, both from El Puerto, will feature in the opening event, while local matador Daniel Crespo will appear in one of the season’s most anticipated bullfights.
The blend of national stars and local representatives strengthens the connection between the bullring and its supporters, a key factor in the growth of the season in recent years.
The programme also includes a major event for enthusiasts of horse-mounted bullfighting.
On Friday 7 August, a prestigious Iberian horse-mounted bullfight will be staged as a tribute to Álvaro Domecq Romero. The event will be headlined by Diego Ventura, widely regarded as the leading figure in modern rejoneo, alongside prominent Portuguese and Spanish specialists.
The participation of leading riders from both countries reflects a tradition that remains deeply rooted in the Cádiz region and adds further variety to an already outstanding programme.
The official presentation highlighted the importance of the season for the city from a cultural, tourism and economic perspective.
The practical training sessions scheduled for late July once again demonstrate a commitment to nurturing future generations of bullfighters, providing valuable opportunities for students from bullfighting schools and helping to secure the future of the sport.
The support of local institutions and the loyalty of the fans have played a crucial role in the continued growth of a bullring that is steadily strengthening its position within Spain’s bullfighting calendar.
