David de Miranda and Borja Jiménez crown the bullfighting summer of El Puerto
The summer season in El Puerto de Santa María came to a close with an afternoon of high anticipation and three exceptional protagonists. David de Miranda and Borja Jiménez left the Plaza Real on shoulders after sharing five ears, while Morante de la Puebla also left his mark with a trophy. The audience responded with a “Sold Out” in the last event of the cycle.
The bulls from Hermanos García Jiménez offered, in general terms, an interesting performance. The bulls fought in third, fifth, and sixth place stood out especially, allowing for moments of great artistic expression. On the contrary, the first and fourth presented greater difficulties and shorter duration.
David de Miranda signs an afternoon of three ears
David de Miranda was the great numerical winner of the celebration. The bullfighter from Huelva found in the third bull a collaborator to build a performance of poise and depth, in which he knew how to take advantage of the animal’s possibilities on both sides.
His bullfighting combined the smoothness of the muletazos with moments of great exposure, especially in the final phase, when he got between the horns to exhaust his opponent’s options. A few bernardinas added excitement to the closing of the performance, and a precise sword thrust allowed him to walk away with two ears.
The sixth once again offered him the opportunity to stand out. After a high-quality capote reception, De Miranda devised an intelligent fight against a bull that required special attention on the left horn. The swordsman responded with long, low-handed, and medium-height passes, managing to extract depth from a charge that was not easy. The ear obtained completed his tally of three trophies and confirmed his status as one of the standout names of the afternoon.
Borja Jiménez, two performances of personality and dedication
Borja Jiménez also found reasons to celebrate at the end of the summer in El Puerto. The Sevillian cut off an ear from each of his bulls, although his handling of the sword deprived him of increasing his reward.
With the second one, he started gaining ground with the cape, stretching out with veronicas. The animal, strong and mobile, demanded precision, but offered distance and transmission. Jiménez knew how to take advantage of those conditions to link the passes and build a performance that grew in intensity, with moments of abandon and expression.
The performance before the fifth bull reached a special artistic dimension. In front of a bull that allowed for greater display, the bullfighter managed to slow the pace of the charge and draw out series with great cadence. The slowness, the class, and the adjustment marked a work of notable inspiration, in which each muletazo seemed to find its time.
However, the failures with the steel in both bulls prevented the Sevillian from adding more trophies. The two ears obtained were enough to accompany David de Miranda in the shoulder exit.
Morante de la Puebla opens the afternoon with his signature style.
Morante de la Puebla also delivered a remarkable performance, especially with the first bull of the afternoon. The bull offered few facilities and barely passed through, but the master from La Puebla del Río knew how to change its terrain and work on its charge until it gradually entered the muleta.
From there, he built a performance of artistry and rhythm, finding quality passages on both sides despite the animal’s limitations. The sword thrust, effective on the first attempt, allowed him to cut the first ear of the celebration and open the trophy count.
With the fourth one, he had fewer options. The bull was more stationary and its run ended quickly, although Morante once again showcased details of his personal concept of bullfighting. The work was recognised with a strong ovation.
A season finale with the Plaza Real full
The last bullfighting event of the summer in El Puerto met the expectations and sold out. The bullfight brought together three different concepts: the depth and temperament of David de Miranda, the expression and rhythm of Borja Jiménez, and the personality of Morante de la Puebla.
The final balance left De Miranda with three ears and Jiménez with two, both awarded with the exit on shoulders. Morante completed the artistic section with an ear and a significant ovation.
An afternoon of triumph for the two right-handed bullfighters who crossed the Puerta Grande, with a final touch of three and two ears, respectively.
