Diego Ventura delivers the standout performance of the evening in El Puerto de Santa María, cutting two ears and leaving the bullring on the shoulders of his supporters after the night-time rejoneo bullfight.
The Plaza Real in El Puerto de Santa María witnessed an evening of rejoneo with Diego Ventura as the undisputed star. The Sevillian horseman produced the most accomplished performance of the bullfight on 7 August, rounding off the evening with two ears and a triumphant exit on the shoulders of his supporters.
The second bull from the San Pelayo ranch gave Ventura the opportunity to showcase his considerable skills. The highlight came during the banderillas stage, when he impressed with his precision, close encounters with the bull and perfectly timed execution. His performance won the crowd’s approval and was reflected in the final tally of trophies.
The first ear of the evening went to Rui Fernandes. The Portuguese rejoneador approached the opening bull with his customary elegance and classical style, delivering a performance that earned him a trophy.
Moura Caetano also produced some noteworthy moments and was greeted with applause, despite leaving without a trophy. The Portuguese rider showed flashes of quality with the banderillas but was unable to bring his performance to a more decisive conclusion.
Andrés Romero followed a similar path. The rider from Huelva earned the crowd’s recognition with several meritorious passages, but difficulties with the killing rejón ultimately undermined his chances of securing a trophy. He received an ovation after being called to account for two warnings.
One of the evening’s distinctive moments came from Sebastián Fernández. The rejoneador from Granada received the fifth bull with a garrocha in hand, delivering a country-inspired opening that gave his performance a distinctive character.
His work earned him a lap of the ring, although he did not secure a trophy. The young Duarte Fernandes, who brought the bullfight to a close, also showed some promising touches. However, mistakes with the killing weapons prevented him from receiving greater recognition, and his performance was rewarded with applause.
With three-quarters of the seats occupied, Diego Ventura emerged as the principal triumphator of El Puerto’s rejoneo bullfight. His two ears, earned through a particularly impressive display with the banderillas, secured his triumphant exit through the Puerta Grande of the Plaza Real.
Rui Fernandes and Sebastián Fernández also received recognition, with an ear and a lap of the ring respectively. The remaining riders finished without cutting ears, with their results largely affected by their difficulties in delivering the coup de grâce.
