A bullring with legendary status

To understand the importance of Morante’s decision, it is worth remembering the words of the legendary Joselito “El Gallo”, whose famous quotation still welcomes bullfighters in the bullring:

“Anyone who has never watched bullfighting in El Puerto has never truly experienced a day at the bullfights.”

More than a century later, those words remain as relevant as ever.

Opened in 1880, the Plaza Real is one of Spain’s most beautiful historic bullrings. Its Neo-Mudéjar architecture, golden sand and unique atmosphere have witnessed many of the greatest moments in bullfighting history.

Friday 31 July – 8:00 pm

Novillada with bulls from Rocío de la Cámara and Cortijo de la Sierra: The season opens by showcasing the future of bullfighting. Young local prospects Víctor Barroso and Gonzalo Capdevila will perform alongside Castrejón and Santana, who makes his debut with picadores.

Saturday 1 August – 8:00 pm

Bulls from Álvaro Núñez: The first major bullfight of the fair brings together three of today’s finest artistic matadors. Morante de la Puebla, Juan Ortega and Alejandro Talavante form one of the most eagerly anticipated line-ups of the season, combining classic elegance, inspiration and exceptional cape work.

Sunday 2 August – 8:00 pm

Bulls from Núñez del Cuvillo. One of the biggest attractions of the summer. Morante faces Andrés Roca Rey, currently one of the sport’s leading stars and biggest crowd-pullers, while Pablo Aguado completes a line-up that promises contrasting styles and unforgettable moments.

Friday 7 August – 10:00 pm

Night Rejoneo with bulls from San Pelayo. A spectacular evening dedicated to Álvaro Domecq Romero. World-leading horseman Diego Ventura joins Duarte Fernandes and Moura Caetano in a night of horsemanship, precision and excitement beneath the lights of Plaza Real.

Saturday 8 August – 8:00 pm

Bulls from El Freixo. Morante returns for his third appearance alongside José María Manzanares, one of Spain’s most accomplished matadors, and local favourite Daniel Crespo, who will look to shine in front of his home crowd.

Sunday 9 August – 8:00 pm

Bulls from Hermanos García Jiménez. The final bullfight of the fair brings Morante together with two of the most exciting names of the new generation. Borja Jiménez, one of the standout performers of recent seasons, joins David de Miranda in a line-up that blends experience, youth and ambition to close the fair in style.
